2-1-2018 The European Bureau for Conscientious Objection about Y.V.Yaylali and Meral Geylani
Yannis-Vasilis Yaylali is a peace activist and journalist in Turkey, jailed by the Turkish government since April 22nd of 2017. He is a Turkish citizen of Greek origin born in the Bafra area of the Black Sea coast.
Mr Friedhelm Schneider from the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) sent the statement below about Yannis-Vasilis Yaylali and Meral Geylani.
“I sign this petition on behalf of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO). It cannot be tolerated that Turkey consistently fails to comply with its commitments as signatory state of the European Convention on Human Rights.
In particular it remains a scandal that the human right of conscientious objection to military service is constantly violated by Turkey and that the jurisdiction issued by the European Court of Human Rights in favour of Turkish conscientious objectors is continuously ignored by Turkish authorities.”
